What is not considered a type of reinforcement?

Stimulus reinforcement is not recognized as a distinct type of reinforcement within the established frameworks of behavior analysis. The two primary forms of reinforcement are positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement.

Positive reinforcement involves adding a desirable stimulus to increase the likelihood of a behavior being repeated. For example, giving a child a treat for completing their homework encourages them to continue that behavior.

Negative reinforcement, on the other hand, entails the removal of an unpleasant stimulus to strengthen a behavior. For instance, fastening a seatbelt to stop the car's annoying beeping promotes the behavior of wearing a seatbelt.

Since stimulus reinforcement does not specifically identify a method of promoting behavior through the addition or removal of stimuli, it falls outside the categories defined in reinforcement theory.
